Know Me

Know Me

so you know me?
well,
forget my name
take out my hair
untie my eyes
uproot my teeth
remove this face
do you still know me?

well,
shed my skin
peel my muscles
detach my organs
undo these tissues
Strip me from my bones.
Do you still know me?

I am not this skin
and it is not me.
I own my breath
it does not own me.
I reside inward
somewhere deep beneath
and I shine outwards
beaming radiantly.

I am:
a lifetime of experiences
a handful of memories
pieces of past
hope for the future.
electric impulses
a moment in time
a soul that loves
a spirit that thrives.

you haven’t even begun —
to know me.
